VOLUNTEERING.

A meeting of the firing committee of the Christchurch Artillery corps was held last evening. Present —Lieutenant Strange (in the chair), Lieutenant Hulbert, Sergeant Duncan, Corporals Sinclair, Farrell, and Mills, and Gunner Leahy. The business of the meeting was the election of a team to fire a match with the Engineers today at one o’clock, and the following team was selected :—Lieutenant Strange, QuarterMaster Fox, Sergeants Hill and Duncan, Armourer-Sergeant Mapp, Corporal Sinclair, Bombadier Houston, Gunners Leahy, Archbold, and J. Booth ; reserve —Gunners FTorrio and A. Lusk. This concluded the ordinary business of the meeting. Lieutenant Strange then informed those present that a cup had been presented by ex-Gunner Long, to bo fired for by members of the battery. The conditions decided on for the match were —ranges, 200, 400 and 500 yards 5 seven shots at each range; no score under sixty points to win, and the prize to be won twice before becoming the property of any competitor ; ties to be fired off at longest range. The first competition will take place on the 11th February, and the matches will bo held fortnightly until the trophy is finally won. The proceedings terminated with a vote of thanks to Mr Long, of whoso liberality the chairman spoke in eulogistic terms.
