HARMONIC SOCIETY.

A meeting of ths committee of this society was held yesterday afternoon at tho offices of Messrs Acland and Campbell. Presont—The Rev. H. O. M. Watson (in the chair), Messrs Acland, Lovjghna-n, Rowley, Rutland, Bennington, and Professor Cooke. The meeting was called to specially consider the financial condition of the society. For many years it has boon in debt, and evory effort hitherto made to retrieve the affairs of tho society has failod. Tho treasurer (Mr H. H. t oughnan) now reported that he had paid nearly all the debts, and that he had sufficient in hand to pay off evory liability and leave a handsome balance towards the present year's incomo. Tho committee wore unanimously of opinion that tho conductor, who is giving his services gratuitously, should bo placed upon the footing of a paid officer at an early date, and they hoped that during the year this would be effected if the society continued in its present flourishing state. After some discussion Mr Acland's resolution, seconded by Mr Lout;hnan—" That a limited number of life membership tickets (twenty-five) should bo issued at five guineas, for the purpose of raising funds to establish a good musical library," was carried. It was agreed that tho first rehearsal of Smart's cantata, " The Bride of Duncarrow," should beheld on Tuesday, the 27th, in St. John's schoolroom, and that the members of the Orchestral Society should bo invited to assist in the rehearsals. After appointing a sub-committep, consisting of Messrs Acland, Loughnan, and Rutland, to bring up draft rules, the committee adjouroed.
