CATHEDRAL SQUARE TANK.
The water tank in Cathedral equare was emptied and cleaned out yesterday afternoon, for the purpose of making a teßt of the power gained by the additional pipe from the Tramway Company's new well, which was sunk to the lower stratum. A trial was first made of the new source of supply, which was found to give a flow equal to about 1800 gallons per hour, passing through a 3in. pipe. The supply of water obtained from this source is considered very satisfactory, considering that it has to pass through a long length of pipe extending from the Tramway shed to the tank, and allowance has therefore to be made for the resistance to the flow experienced in travelling that distance. After this trial the old Bupply wbb turned on, and the tank soon filled. It was calculated that an engine would empty the tank in half an hour, with the old artesian going, and as this new supply will give double power, it will be obvious that a very considerable advantage ha 3 been gained by connecting the Tramway Company's well with the tank.
