PEDESTRIANISM AT THE RINK.

The second day of the walking feat attempted by young Scatt was more successful in point of attendance than the first, and a good deal of intereit was taken in the peiformance. Daring the afternoon Scott increased his pace, and although he was somewhat behind time, no doubt was entertained by the knowing ones that he would at least do 111 miles by ten o'clock. But an unfortunate accident occurred, which at once put the possibility of his performing that task out of the question, and which secured for the young pedestrian the greatest sympathy among the crowded assembly, there being about 1000 people in th. 3 Rink during the evening. About twenty minutes past five o'clock young Scott was taken with cramp in the side, the pain being eo intense that he could not move, and, with all the attention bestowed upon him by his trainer and assistants, he did not recover for a considerable time, and one hour and ten mi mte» were lost by the stoppage. Though enieavors were made to persuade him to re'ire, Scott then continued his walk, and, as he was from the late attack, kept at it with spirit, putting on a big spurt at the hundredth mile, which he did in 9mins. 3Jst?cs., amid deafening applause from the spectators. At ten o'clock, that was twentyfour hours from the start, Scott had walked 103 miles and 10 laps, or about half a mile. Yesterday Scott was Tery well, but his feet were much blistered from walking on the asphalte. He proceeds to Dunedin this week, and afterwards will visit Wellington and Northern towns.
