POISONOUS BEER.
An extraordinary case of poisoning (soys the “Argus”) occurred at Prahran, nearly resulting in the death of two men, who were visiting a friend at Prahran, when some beer was sent for, a bottle of which was obtained from a storekeeper in Chapel street. The bottle was opened, and two glasses poured out. Parsons and his companion took a mouthful, but the ale tasted so bitter that they were unable to take any more. Shortly afterwards both men, exhibited all the signs of poisoning by strychnine. They were taken to a chemist, who recommended their immediate removal to the Alfred Hospital. The patients, on being examined at that institution, were found to ba suffering from poison, apparently strychnine, and weio placed under treatment. About six o’clock the same evening they were sufficiently rc« covered to be able to leave the hospital, but were still very weak. The ale was purchased by the storekeeper in question from a loci I brewery. The contents of the bottle will be submitted to an analytical examination.
