HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held on Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Present—The chairman (Mr Thompson), and Messrs Booth and Ick.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Correspondence in reference to the health of the children at Quail Island and the condition of the Orphanage at Lyttelton was read, a report being submitted with respect to the latter that the work of general improvement was progressing. The hospital committee reported that during the past fortnight twenty patientß had been admitted and sixteen discharged, leaving seventy-four patients in the hospital. Three deaths occurred during the same period. Instructions have been given to the house steward to present all guaranteed accounts weekly, instead of waiting until the patients are discharged from the institution. Tho following statement of receipts was submitted :—Christchurch Hospital, £72 12s Id; Orphan Asylum, £64 14j ; hospital cottage, Akaroa, £2l 14s; Ashburton Home, £7 ; casual ward, Lyttelton, £l9 19d ; Armagh street depot, 14s ; total, £lB6 3s Is. At the suggestion of the Chairman, the Board resolved to recommend the Government to appoint the Mayor of Sydenham a member of the Charitable Aid Board.

At this stage tho Board went into com mittee.
