Lakcbnt.—Bernard Neary was charged with stealing two gold rings, a gold scirf pin and sleeve links. Mr Neck appeared for the accused. John Neil, detective, stationed in Christchurch, deposed that he saw the accused at Cohen's pawnshop, trying to pawn some jewe'lary, saying he had brought it from Adelaide. Mr Cohen would not take it in, as he knew it before. The prisoner then told witness that he had been given the things by one Doherty at Amberloy, and afterwards that he found them in the bar. He then produced a purse, in which were some sovereigns, and the pockets of a man's clothes, cut as if they had been severed from some person's clothing. Inspeotor Hickson said there was information that a person had the pockets cut from his clothes at Bakaia, and it would be necessary to obtain a remand for the production of evidence. A remand for eight days was granted. Dbunkennhss.—One person was charged with having been drunk and incapable in Colombo street on the day previous. He pleaded guiltv and was fined 5» and costs.
