NEW BOATING CLUB.

A numerously attended meeting was held on Thu sday night, in the Lyttelton Colonists’ Hall, for the purpose of organising a Beating Club at Port. Mr Robert Pullstt was voted to the chair, and stated the object for which the meeting had been called. A resolution was carried unanimously, that a Rowing Club be formed, the mover reminding those present of the past history of Lyttelton aquatic sports, and that one of the first clubs in the colony had been maintained there for years. No other port in New Zealand possessed superior facilities for exercising on the water than were obtained in the inner harbor at Port, and the record made by the last Rowing Club would indicate that the right kind of material was to be found ashore to make use of these facilities. The resolution having been passed nem con, the membership fees were proposed to be, respectively, 10s 6i per annum, entrance fee 10s 6i, and hon. members’ subscription one guinea. A committee on rules was appointed, consisting of Messrs McFarlane, Dransfield, Smith, Ockford, Dnnlop, Rich, Puflolt. Mr J. T. Smith was appointed secretary pro tern, and Mr H. All wright, treasurer. Of those present thirtyfour signed the membership roll, and nine have since signified their intention to join. Fourteen honorary members also gave their names. It will thus be seen that the experiment hag received substantia! encouragement, and is likely to result in the formation of a strong club. The committee meat next Monday.
