ASHBURTON AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
A special general meeting of members was held at Shearman’sjHotel, Ashburton, yesterday afternoon, Mr J. Qrigg (president) in the chair. Correspondence was read from Mr Passmore respecting prizes at agricultural shows, and from Mr Carter offering paddock of grain for reaper and binder contest. It was resolved to thank Mr Passmore for his letter, and have it filed for future consideration. Buie 4 of the society, which fixed the date of annual meeting for the second Tuesday in September, was altered so as to make the meeting take place on the second Tuesday in April. It was resolved to hold the reaper and binder contest on or about the 20th inst. Two offers of suitable grain for cutting were made by Messrs Hay T. Smith and J. Carter. The selection of paddock and all other arrangements were left to a committee consisting of Messrs Hay T. Smith, Mayo, Silcock, E. Saunders, and Hunt. Messrs Parsons, Black, and Passmore were elected judges as farmers, and Mr E. G. Wright as an engineer. It was resolved that the secretary be instructed to take the necessary steps to enrol the society, and that application be made to have the cattle market reserve vested in the society. Mr Carter wrote, offering from five to eight acres for a show ground, at the rate of 5s an acre for five years, he to reserve right of grazing sheep on same. It was resolved to defer the question as to which side of the river the show should be held till the annual meeting in April. It was resolved—“ That this meeting approve of the action taken by the president and the chairman of the Domain Board with reference to the exchange with the Domain Board of that portion of the reserve severed by the Mount Somers railway line. A committee, consisting of Messrs Grigg, Cox, Coster, and B. Saunders, was appointed to select a device for the society’s proposed medal, to report next meeting. An honorarium of £lO was voted to Mr G. Jameson, the secretary, as a token of the society’s appreciation of his services.
