WAIMAKARIRI HARBOR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Monday evening. Present —Messrs Wearing (chairman), Blackwell, Moore, Mathews, and Eckersley. Letters were read from Mr R. Woodford, contractor for fitting the machinery, declining to accept the offer made by the Board in settlement of his claim. From the Colonial Secretary" and Marine Department, stating that the Minister regretted his inability to assist the Board with a grant of £IOOO. From the resident railway engineer, asking the chairman to meet him in reference to the railway siding. Tho chairman reported that in conjunction with the Mayor he had met the engineer relative to the siding. He had made application during the sitting of Parliament for a grant of £IOOO to assist the Board, which was referred to in the letters read. He had also seen tho Hon. W. Bolleston and Mr C. 0. Bowen in reference to the samo. As Mr R. Evane, who lent the engino to test the dredge, required its return, the same had been sent back to him, and the Board would have to consider the advisability of securing another as soon as possible. Their banker would consent to an overdraft on certain oanditions, with which the Board could not at present comply. Accounts to the amount of £2O 13s 7d were passed. A general discussion in referenoe to the prospects of the Board ensued. It was resolved finally that the secretary make an estimate of the cost of the plant required to put the present machinery into working order, and report at a special meeting on the 12th inst. The Board then adjourned.
