Peru state that the President of the Republic, General Prado, has fled, in consequence of the difficulty of prosecuting the war with Chili, and hecause of the insecurity of his position. Senor Pierloa has been proclaimed dictator of Peru. CALCUTTA, January 5. The Afghan Question, The Viceroy, Lord Lytton, made a speech to-day, in the course of which he said that his first task would be to endeavor to reassure and conciliate the Afghans, with a view to an amicable settlement of .the Afghan question. Rangoon, January 5. England and Bnrmah. King Theebaw, of Burmah, having failed to come to an amicable understanding with the Viceroy of India, is now sending an embassy to the various European Courts, * [“ age” special.] LONDON, January 5. There has been an extensive discovery of Nihilism in the ranks of the Russian army, and the penalties for Nihilists in the army reserve have been consequently largely increased. A hurricane recently passed over Zebu doing considerable damage to tha shipping. The Maria, a French barque, lying there with 2015 bales of bomp for Melbourne, was totally dismasted and driven ashore on tha rocks, and now lie* in a bad position, with six feet of water in the hold.
