MEETING OF JUSTICES.

A meeting of Justices of the Peace t>ok place yesterday afternoon, in the City Council Chambers, to consider what steps should bo tuken in relation to the recent party dislurbances. There was a very considerable attendance of Justices, the Resident Magistrate of Chrietchurch also being present. After fully discussing the matter, it was resolved to close Barrett's Hotel for the remainder of the week, not as implying complicity on the part of Mr Barrett in the late outrage, but entirely with a view to the preservation of the public peace. With regard to the question of party processions generally, which wes fully discussed, the majority of tho meeting were of opinion that it would be advisable to petition Parliament to legislate with a view to placing such under certain restrictions, as for instance, enacting that twenty-four hours' notice should be given to the authorities, whose leave must be obtained before tho demonstration should take place. It was, however, eventually decided to postpone the consideration of this question for a month, in order that no one might be biassed in opinion by discussing it during a time of excitement.
