THE NEW YEAR'S REGATTA.

Good progress is reported in connection with the Ljttelton Regatta which is to be held next Thursday, and the annual festival at the Port will be as attractive to pleasure seekers, and no doubt as popular with them, on that day as upon any previous celebration. At a meeting of the committee held on Saturday night it was resolved that the flagship, the Lady Jocelyn, the largest of the ships in port, would, as in former years, be moored at the buoy at the entrance between the breakwaters. A fleet of small steamers and boats will be plying between the flagship and the wharves to convey passengers at the charge of one shilling per head. The Lidy Jocelyn will be available to the public who are non-subscribei s at a charge of half a crown per adult. As has been before stated, subscribers to the regatta fund of sums of half a guinea and upwards will be supplied with complimentary tickets, which will include conveyance to and from the ship and admission. In connection with the programme of events it was decided to add a tub race, and to start the model yacht race, the larger models at 9.30 a.m. and the smaller sized at 10 a.m., making two distinct races. It was stated that about thirty models would be entered. The Mayor of Lyttelton's prize this year will be a barometer instead of a silver oup. The one to be given was exhibited at the committee meeting on Saturday night. It is a very handsome silver barometer, full size, and may be used as a table ornament, a very pretty bronze stand being one of its attachments. The offer of Mr Andrew McDonald to cater for the flagship was accepted by the committee, who, after receiving some minor reports of sub-committees and several subscriptions to the fund, adjourned to meet in the Colonists' Hall to-night at eight o'clock.
