Tho “Weekly Dispatch” of September 28th says : —“ The theatrical wardrobe of the late Samuel Phelps wag eubmitted to public competition at Mr George Robins's auction rooms on Friday last. Amongst the lota were Massinger’s Plays, several editions of Shakespeare, and other works, tendijg to show how Mr Phelps had studied the authors whose plays he rendered so effectively on tho stage. The engravings which appear to have adorned his walls revealed the same sentiment. Among those sold were the portraits of Elliston, the elder Mathews, John Philip Kemble, Charles Young, Munden, Tyrone Power, Liston (whoso portrait was sold for tho trifling sum of nine shillings), and others. After the sale of this portion of the property of tho great tragedian, came the sale of the various costumes in which ho appeared when impers. na» ting his favourite characters. These were all sold at a nominal value only, and the paitiea who were fortunate enough to possess the properties will, as costumiers, be able to make a handsome profit out of their purchases. As a specimen of tl o singularly low prices realised, the dress in which ho was in the habit of appearing as Timon of Athens, realised 18s ; Leontes, 6s ; Dr. Cantwell, lls ; Bertuccio (in “ Fool’s Revenge”), 15s ; King Lear, 15s ; Mr Beverley (in “ Gamester”), 6s; Hotspur, 18s ; Othello, £1 Xss ; Falstaff, 19a ; Richard 111 , lls ; Shylock, 10s ; King John, £1 12s; William Tell, Ga; Sir Giles Overreach, £2 5s ; Mephistopheles, £1; Henry V., £1 ; Manfred, lls ; Duke Aranza, £1 5s j King o’ Scots, £1; Mcrcutio, 16s ; Werner, 10a. Nearly four sets of scenery, said to have been taken in payment for a debt due, were sold for £5 10s. The whole sale only realised the small sum of £6B 6s, A year has not elapsed since the grave closed over the remains of Samuel Phelps, yet public interest in the once famous aetor has apparently ceased to esist»**
