TRADESMEN’S AND MECHANICS’ LOAN SOCIETY.
Tho nineteenth annual meeting of tho Tradesmen’s and Mechanics’ Loan Society was held on Friday evening. There was a good attendance of members. The chairman presented the balance-sheet for tho past year, duly audited, which showed the subscriptions and other payments to amount to £1659 17s 4d and disbursements on loans £llO6 14s and subscriptions withdrawn £125 3J, dividends paid £123 13s 3d, expenses, &c., £43 3s, insurances and sundry amounts £39 Oi 2d, leaving a balance in the Bank of £222 3s lid. The committee reported that, notwithstanding the general depression of business during the past year, the borrowing members had duly met their engagements, and, although the committee could not have the pleasure of reporting an increase in tho number of members, yet they were glad to be able to state that nearly all tho funds were safely invested on freehold securities or on security of members’ shares, and that, after paying all expenses and making a reserve for contingencies, they wore able to declare a dividend of ten per cent., payable at once, on shares for tho past year.
