THE MAMMOTH MINSTRELS.

There was a very good house last night at the Theatre Eoyal, when the Mammoth Minstrels appeared in a new programme. In the first part IVIr Amory sang a very pretty song, Wait till the violets grow,” Mr Fredericks, a new ballad, “Little ones begging. Mr Campbell, in his song “Beautiful hawthorn, had a chance to display his fine voice, and was deservedly applauded. The song allotted to Mr Beaumont Bead, “ The Sunbeam song,” elicited a hearty, encore, which was responded to by a repeat. Of the other items in the first part, Mr Bent’s “ Branuagan’s Band” elicited roars of laughter, and the contributions of Messrs Brown, Newlands, and Obecvers, added to the merriment of the audience. The finale introduced some of the gems from “ Girofle-Girofla,” in which Mr Bead received the compliment of an encore for his singing of “ Dearest papa.” In the sketches and farces which followed Messrs Oheevers, Kennedy, Brown, Bent, and Nowlands, were exceedingly funny, and all of them went excellently. To-night, Mr W. H. Bent, who has so long been deservedly a favorite with Christchurch playgoers, will take his benefit, which will be the last sppearance but one of the minstrels in Christchurch.
