Reports are generally current that a quarrel had broken out between the Czar and the Czarewitch. The latter demands a constitutional Government, which the former refuses to accede to. CALCUTTA, December 15. The Afghan War. Tho fighting is still continued round Cabul. On the 14th the Afghans, who were numerically superior to the British, made a desperate attack on the heights south of the city, occupied by the British troops on the 13th. General Roberts consequently decided to abandon the heights, concentrating on the cantonments of Sherpan, north of Cabul. Orders have been given to Gough and Arbuthnot to bring up reinforcements from Gnndamuk and Jellalabad. December 16. Further details of the fighting on December 14th state that the Afghans to the numbe'r of 30,000 made several desperate attacks. General Roberts lost one gun. Ho telegraphs to the Viceroy that help is urgently necessary.
