AKAROA REGATTA.
The regatta was continued after the leaving of the s.e. Wellington, and the following items on the programme came off. In the Model Yacht Race many complaints wore made as to owners unduly pushing their boats while shifting the helm. For this event there were ten entries, and eight started : Model Yacht Race, square com se—lst prize, .£5 ; 2nd, .22 ; 3rd, XI. Entrance, ss. Mermaid. John Checkley Hebe, J. Bruce Lizzie, C. Black Ondine, R. Newton The above is the order in which they came in, but Mermaid and Lizzie had to give the Hebe and Ondine one minute time allowance, which places Hebe and Ondine first and second, and Lizzie third. The wind during the race was light and shifty, and the result was no fair trial of the models on their merits. In fact any boat might have won, and opinion generally condemned the square course. A protest has been lodged against the Mermaid for fouling one of the buoys. Sailing Race, for boys under 18, in boits under 16 feet —Ist prize, X 3; 2nd, XI. Entrance, 2s 6d. Annie Wright, H. Fenton 1 Dart, Geo. Henrici 2 Secret, Robert Fergusson ... _ ... 3 Three started. The wind was light and variable during the race, which made it the Annie’s race ; otherwise the Dart would have won. Duck Hunt—Prize, X2. Entrance, Is. William Thomas, drake G. Black, duck Won by drake. This was the last event on the programme, and closed the sports of the day so far as the regatta was concerned. In the evening at the Industrial Exhibition, Mr Lewis and Captain Thomas, in the exhibits of model yachts, awarded to first prize to Mr E. 8. Latter’s Amateur, and highly commended Master Reeves’ model of a whale boat.
