Tho Board of Health met yesterday afternoon at five o'clock. Present —Messrs Harman (chairman), Tancred, Hall, Ross. The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, The report from the Health Officer was read in reference to the condition of Jackson's Creek. This report was read at the Drainage Board meeting two weeks since, and a portion of it was at that time dealt with. Tho Chairman stated that the only portion of the above communication not dealt with was referred to in the inspector's report. The inspector reported as follows : December loth, 1879. 1. I beg to report that I am, in accordance with instructions of the chairman, inspecting the slaughter-yards within the drainage district. 2. I have continued the inspection of Jackson's Creek, from Montreal street to Gasworks road: it is now being cleaned out. The sludge taken out smells very badly and in some parts should not bo allowed to remain longer on its banks than possible. 3. Several persons residing at Bingsland have complained lately of a bad smell arising from the keeping of pigs by Mr Sheppard, Stanmore road. I have inspected the premises from time to time and find that, although Mr Sheppard can remove his styes even a greater distance than required by the by-law, it is utterly impossible be can keep pigs on any portion of his premises and feed them on the waste and refuse from hotels without causing a nuisance, I have, therefore, notified him accordingly. 4. I de ; ire instructions in reference to that offensive portion of the south drain, near Madras Btreet. Mr Mumford, hotel-keeper, has enquired if ho may be allowed to fill it up and enclose it with his own land. Wit. Pearce, Inspector of Nuisances. Tho report, as road, was adopted. Some correspondence was read and variously disposed of. Infectious diseases for the past fortnight were reported as follows : - Diphtheria, I ; scarlet fever, 1.
