THE VOLUNTEERS.
CITY GUARDS RIFLE MATCH. The above company fired a match at the Cashmere range yesterday morning for a Cup presented to the company, with the following condition—Lieutenant Wolfe and Sub-Lieu-tenant Francis each to pick a team on the ground. The ranges were 200 and 400 yards, regulation target, fire shots at each range, any position. The Cup to become the property of the winning team. A large squad was expected on the ground, but, owing to the threatening state of the weather, only leu mustered. The following are the scores : Sub Lieutenant Fbancis’s Team.
It will be seen by the above that SubLieutenant Francis’s team won the Cup by ten points. The morning was very unfavourable for good shooting—the wind almost at hurricane force across the range. It was the opinion of those competent to judge that a more undesirable place for the targets could no be found on the range ; it would have been far better had the targets been placed on a level with the firing point. SubLieutenant Francis’s team will fire for the individual ownership of the Cup next week.
