EDUCATION BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Education Board was held yesterday at three o'clock. Present—Mr Inglis (chairman), Mr A. Duncan, Mr Webb, and the Eev. O. Erase*. The minutes of the previous.] meeting were read and confirmod. The usual statement was read of appointments made and expenditure authorised since last meeting. Several reports from tbe Inspector, in reference to several sobools within the education district were laid upon tbe table. The secretary reported that Miss Morton hao been admitted a pupil teacher for the second year. Approved. A letter was received from the chairman of tho Gloucester street school committee, asking for information as to the responsibility of masters in reference to certain departments. The secretary was instructed to write stating that the mastor of the side school, would not be under the head master of main school, if sufficient grounds were advancod for making it a separate school. It was resolved that the Chrhtmas vacation should bo five weeks from the 12 th of December.
A deputation from the Flaxton school committee waited on tho Board in reference to tho management of the side school. The Board informed the deputation that they would consider tbe matter referred to and reply. Messrs Joyce and Allison waited on the Board in reference to the outbuildings in connection with the Colombo road school. Competitive designs by Mr Lambert and Mr Whitelaw respectively were considered. It was resolved —" That the Board approves of the modified plan now submitted, and instructs the architect to carry it out," and the expenses of Mr Whitelaw's plan wore ordered to be paid. Tne secretary was instructed to communicate the Board's decision to the committee. I A latter was read from Kowai Bush, stating that the school there was now without water, and it was resolved to lower the well.
An application was sent in from the committee of the Southbridge school for additional accommodation, which was authorised to be provided. The Board authorised the expenditure of £42 for the construction of sash windows at the Bingsland school. With referonce to the drainage of the Normal school, the secretary was instructed to inako the necossary inquiries re connection with the street drain. Plans of proposed alterations to the outbuildings of the Phillipstown school, in reference to which certain complaints were made, were considered, and it was resolved to submit them to the committee. A rmmber of communications in reference to sanitary matters and small repairs at different schools were disposed of, and the Board adjourned.
