A largely-a(tended meeting of the committee of thia body was held in the schoolroom on Tuesday evening, Mr A. Nioholls in the chair. Mr S. Watkins, the secretary, detailed the action that had been taken in reference to the coming exhibition on the 16th instant, from which it appeared that the arrangements were in a most forward state, and that the interest generally taken in the proceedings promised a very successful show. The secretary further reported that the ladies and gentlemen appointed judges had all consented to act, and the names of Miss Shackell and Mrs Beawick were added to the list of judges of ladies’ work. The Union Steam Company wrote advising their intention of giving a prize of £2 2a for the best plain writing, for boys or girls under sixteen. The committee agreed to offer two prizes of £1 Is each for boys and girls separately. The committee agreed to add to their schedule of entries, prizes for cheese, butter, and honey in the comb. The treasurer reported that a balance of £4 was in hand from last year’s show. The details in regard to seating and lighting the rooms were left with the secretary, and the arrangements in regard to procoring music were left in the hands of Mr Nioholls. It was arranged that all industrial exhibits should be in the hands of the committee by 8 p.m. on the evening of 15th, and all horticultural exhibits by 10 a.m. on the day of exhibition.
