ROAD BOARDS.
HEATHOOTE, The above Board met on Friday last at 10 a.m. Present Messrs E. Clephano (chairman), J. O’Neill, W. Attwood, and W. Hawker. The chairman reported the result of ths interview with the Drainage Board re drainage matters. The clerk reported receipts for the fortnight to be £34 17s 7d. It was reported to the Board that persons had removed earth from the Canal reserve and at Sumner. The clerk was instructed to write to them on the subject; he was also instructed to write to the Local Board of Health with reference to a nuisance in Worcester street east. Mr F. Thompson waited on the Board and handed in the survey of the proposed road to bis section. Mr Clark also interviewed the Board re Lower Avon road, asking that it might be shingled. To be reported on by the works committee. The works committee reported—lie Sumner road :1. That they could not recommend anything to be done to the place complained of by Mr Watson._ 2. That the owner of part of rural section 29 at the corner of Gloucester street and Stanmore Toad, be asked to drive in or remove the pegs placed on the footpath, as they are dangerous to foot passengers. 3. That the boundary of the Eiver road be given to Mr Wensley. 4. That Scrutton’s road be formed. 5, That tenders be culled for carting shingle to Wilson’s, Smith’s and Parish’s roads. 6. Also, tenders for carting Eocky Point metal to Oharlesworth rood. 7. That both sides of Hanmer street, Avonville, north side of Hereford street, both sides of St. _ Asaph street and Creek road, Phillipstovrn, have concrete side channels. 8. That the Drainage Board be written to asking them to put in a connection with the Ferry road sewer from Phillips street; also, to clear out the drain through the refuge grounds. The report was adopted. The following correspondence was read and dealt with : Chief Postmaster, re letter carriers riding on footpaths, stating that would not occur again. Mr B. Ireland, re land in Green Hammerton, Mr J. H. Baker, rc tracing of road between rural sections 1146, 1150, and 20G40, stating that it would be forwarded shortly. Mr E. Fenton, re drain by his place. To bo informed that if he will contribute half the cost the work will bo done. Hillsborough school committee, asking for some metal from Hoard’s quarry. Granted. Sydenham Borough Council, asking if the Board would contribute towards the cost of a lamp at Opawa and Wilson’s road. Agreed to. After passing accounts for £202 16s 10d the Board adjourned. SPRINGS, A meeting of the above Board was held at the office, Springston, oa Tuesday, 25th inst. Present —M. Qammack (chairman), Messrs Herrick and Tod. The surveyor’s report was read and considered. Various tenders were opened and some accepted. Mr Beaumont had an interview with the Board respecting the state of No. 2 river. The surveyor was directed to call the attention of the contractor to the state of the river, and to insist on his proceeding with the work at once, both on No. 2 river and the Hals well river. Mr Corbett complained of a ditch having been cut on his property near his house. The surveyor was directed to inspect the matter complained of and report to the Board. Mr Herrick called the attention of the Board to a serious injury now being done to the Ellesmere Junction boundary road in consequence of the heavy shingle cartage being carried on, and suggested that extra labor be employed. The surveyor was directed to take such steps as ho might find necessary. The clerk was directed to make out the various boundary road accounts, and to send them to the respective Boards. The annual meeting of ratepayers was fixed for Tuesday, 6th January. It was resolved —“ That Mr J. M. Martin, of Lincoln, be appointed returning officer at the annual election of members to he returned to serve on the Board.” The correspondence was read from the Little Eiver Eoad Board, giving particulars of repairs to Kimber’s bridge. The clerk was direct to forward a cheque for half the amount. From the Lincoln Eoad Board, stating that complaints had reached that Board respecting the state of the Boundary road (coal tramway roud), between Lincoln and Weedon, The surveyor stated that the matter had been attended to. From the Secretary to the Treasury, stating that the sum of £l3B 3s lid had been placed to the credit of the Board at the Bank of New Zealand. From Dr. Guthrie, reporting a case of diphtheria in Day’s road. Accounts were passed for payment to the amount of £353 12s 2d, and the Board adjourned.
