LAND SALE.

A very successful land sale was held on Saturday by Messrs H. Matson and Co., at their Land and Estate Salerooms, Cashel and Hereford streets. Several valuable properties were put np, and, by the very large attendance and interest shown by the audience, it called back to memory the bnsy and spirited times eighteen months ago. The first property which came under the hammer was 70 acres of rich swamp land, close to the New Brighton schools, and in the occupation of Mr Corser. It was put up in three lots, viz.—Lot 1, containing 30 acres, was quickly bought for £570. Lot 2, containing 19 acres, after some spirited competition, was placed to a buyer for £361; and lot 3, containing 21 acres, realised £378. thus making a total for the block of land of £1309. The next property in order of sale was the well-known section of land, Kohler's gardens, sitnate on the Lincoln road, contiguous to the High Schools, which fell to the lot of a very fortunate purchaser for £I7OO. Tho next in order of sale was 211 acres of land, sold on account of the Canterbury Freehold Land Society, being the remaining sections of land selected in the year 18G6, in the Wailrari valley, near the Weka faM3. Considerable interest was shown in this property from its comparative early selection, and mauy local men having taken up sections from the Company. Lot 1, containing 75 acres, was quickly bought for £3OO. Lot 2, comprising 5 acres, wa9 sold for £ls. Lot 3, containing 101 acres, after some spirited competition, was knocked down for £600; and lot 4, containing 30 acres, was speedily placed for £9O. making a total of £lOll. Tho next in order was 99 acres of land, with dwelling-house, partly improved and partly in bush, situated at Little Akaloa Bay, Banks" Peninsula. This class of laud not beiug much sought for at the present time, failed to reach a fair market price, and was passed ia at a bid of £475. Lot 2, containing 100 acres, was also passed. Section land aud dwellinghouse in Moa placo, Madras street North, and 43 acres on tho South road, at Weedon, also failed to fine purchasers, thns closing one of the most buofulland sales during the past few months, tho total realizing £4020.
