RAKAIA ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held at the Board room on Monday, 24th November. Present—Messrs E. Westenra (in the chair), Dilloway, and Colville. Correspondence was read from the Treasury, advising payment of £lll 9s 4d, being subsidy for half-year. From Messrs Keand and McLoughlan, stating that having made a miscalculation with regard to the amount of work to be done in their contract for re-forming Dunsandel road, they will be at a great loss by the same, and requesting the Board to allow them soma extra payment on this work above the contract price. After some consideration the Board decided that they could not accede to this request, as by so doing would he acting unjustly to the other contractors who tendered for this work. From Mr John Fountaine, calling the attention of the Board to the great prevalence of diphtheria in the Hororata district, and suggesting that the medical adviser to the Board of Health be requested to visit the district, and report on the matter. It was resolved that Dr. Nedwill be at once requested to visit the district, and the surveyor was ordered to make the necessary arrangements without delay. Tenders wore opened for various works, and one in each case accepted. The surveyor was ordered to take legal proceedings for the recovery of all unpaid rates, to take out as many summonses at one time as possible, and to obtain legal advice if necessary.
