The prisoners appeared frightend, but wore encouraged by the police. The populace cried out “ Lynch them,” whereupon Moonlight said, “ Give me a rifle, and let us see who will lynch me.” Arrival. Arrived, from Auckland, Black Eagle. A Horrible Story. Three children at Bowen-fells went out shooting. The youngest, aged four years, dawdled, and the eldest, aged eight, deliberately shot him, and stripped and hid the body, imposing silence on his sister, who was present. The Totalisator. A Bill to legalise the totalisator was read a first time in the Assembly last night.

The defendants in the totalisator cases were fined nominal amounts.
