NEW ZEALAND SABBATH SCHOOL TEACHERS’ INSTITUTE.

A meeting of Sabbath school teachers favorable to the formation of a Sabbath School Teachers’ Institute, under the auspices of the Canterbury Sunday School Union, was held in the Congregational schoolroom, Manchester street, last evening. About twenty teachers, representing six Sunday schools, were present. The chair was taken by Mr Bundle. Mr Peake was chosen minute secretary. Mr Boss, who had been called on by the chairman to open _ the business, said the great object to be attained by the starting of the institute was the establishment of a closer bond of union between the different Sunday school teachers now isolated from each other. Of late years secular education had made such rapid strides that it was desirable concerted action should be taken to effect a similar result in Sunday school tuition. He proposed that the whole of the Sabbath school teachers of Christchurch should band themselves together for the purpose of holding monthly meetings for mutual consideration of causes deterrent to the success of their work, and for the interchange of thought, by which means the pernicious seeds of infidelity scattered broadcast by the cheap literature of the present day, which exercised bad effects upon youthful minds, could be more adequately coped with than at present. Some discussion occurred as to the name, and it was ultimately resolved that the meeting resolve itself into committee to consider a code *o£ rules to bo submitted to a future meeting.
