CATHOLIC CHURCH, OXFORD.

The ceremony of opening Btl blessing the pretty lit 1 lo church lately erected here, the dimensions of whicn have already been given in our columns, took place yesterday. The church was moss artistically decorated with the native P an s, ferns, Ac., of the district on the inside, and without a row of tries on either side entrance gate to the porch at church > made the effect exceedingly pretty, arches bearing inscriptions were inside the gate, and the other near the door of the church. Morning services having been performed by Fathers Binsfidd and Grmthollz, the people began to assemble in great numbers at 11 o’clock, the hour fired for the opening. His Lordship arrived punctually at the hour appointed, and passed through the people arranged on either side from the gate to the church. After a short interval he appeared at the door with the mitre and crosier, with the attendant clergy, when Mr Mullins with the members of the church committee ranged around, road an address. After the address the Bishop and clergy made a circuit of the church, blessing it first outside and then within. He then replied to the address, congratulating them on having such a church, and thanking Mr Johnstone for his generosity and Father BinafieU for his exertions in having it erected. Mass was then celebrated, after which hie Lordship delivered an eloquent sermon on the general tenets of the Catholic church. Confirmation was then administered to the children, when he addressed a few kindly words to them. At five o’clock his Lordship again addressed congregation, after which the people from a distance started for home.
