NORTH y. SOUTH. This match was continued on Saturday last, the South resuming their innings, having lost four wickets for ten runs, while the North had made 153 in their first innings. Wilson did not stay long, as in hitting at a ball to leg he was well caught by Alps at short leg fine. Ollivier and Hartland seemed well set, when the former made a bad hit and was caught at short slip. After this Hartland, who bad given three chances, played in better form, and with Cotterill made a long stand, causing 100 to appear on the telegraph. Hartland gave another chance after 'making 44, but when he had scored 8 more he was caught by Ross at short leg, the score being 127 for seven wickets. The retiring batsman at times played well, some of his hits been very good, a square-leg hit for 5, two 4's, three 3’s, and seven 2’s were his principal figures. Hanmer and Morico did not trouble the scorer, C. Frith getting the last three wickets with three consecutive ball?, but Macdonnell and Cotterill brought the score up to 177 before the former was bowled by Ashby, with a ball well pitched up. His score of 33 comprised some good hits. Cotterill played well for his total of 50. Some of his hits to the on side were very good ; three 4’s, three 3’s, and four 2’s, with singles, comprised hie score. With 24 to the bad, the North commenced with Ashby and J. Fowler. The former was missed at cover point before ho had scored, and again at short leg aiter making a single. After these pieces of good fortune he scored rapidly, one of his hits, a drive to the off, scoring 5. Fowler was bowled by Morico at 34, and Alpe played on before he had scored. C. Frith kept his wicket up while Ashby made runs freely, his last four hits being three 4’s and a 2, when he was well caught by Morice off the sixth ball of the over, the umpire giving’ one ball too many. SYDENHAM YOUTHS, A match, Kaiapoi v Sydenham Youths, was played on the ground of the former on Saturday, resulting in an easy victory for the visitors, owing to their superior fielding and play generally. RICHMOND v CHRISTCHURCH. A m.\tch was played on Saturday between the aboVe named clubs, which resulted in a victory for the Richmond by 40 runs. The scores were - Richmond, 89; Christchurch, 49. For the Christchurch, Houston 22, Marshall 17, were the principal scorers, and Wenlock 16, Grant 13, Harvey 12, and Beckett 11, for the Richmond, The bowling of Marshall for the Christchurch, and Marr and Fisher for the Richmond was very good.
