MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday, Novumbee 22. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.j Dbunk and Disoedebly. Two first offenders were fined ss.
Lasceny. —Leonard, Albert, and Charles Miller Post, three boys o£ tender years, were charged with stealing money, and various other articles, from sundry storekeepers. The father of the children appeared in Court and pleaded guilty. He said he was utterly unable to account for their conduct. They had been carefully brought up, the eldest boy going to the High School and the two younger ones to the Normal School. He had only recently ascertained that they had been in the habit of absenting themselves from school without their parents’ or the masters’ knowledge, and had, when taxed with coming home late, said they had been kept in. His Worship said he was very loth to send such young children to prison, but that a severe punishment was absolutely necessary; he would therefore order them to be locked up for three days and to be severely flagged.
