On rising the Synod adjonrned till Monday. 111 - : : A Lover’s Alarm Clock—A level's alarm clock has been introduced in New Orleans. At ten o’clock it strikes loudly, two little doors open, and a man with a dressing-gown and cap on glides out, holding in his hand a card inscribed “ Good night,” As he bows and smilingly retires back into the clock, the young man takes the hint, says "good night” to the fair daughter, aud departs. The other evening an old gentleman advanced the proposition that never in the coarse of his long life had he even seen a woman who was not charming. “ Ob, really now,” said a lady whose nose was one of the purest Ukraine breed, “ don’t yon think I’m ugly ? ” "Not at all, madame,” replied the gallant old gentleman ; “ you are an angel fresh fallen from heaven, only you fell on your nose 1” A young man fell dead in Mansville, Pa , one Sunday night, recently, while sitting in the parlor where his daughter and her young man was sparking. It may be that the conduct Jof the young couple sickened the old man and caused his death, but it will do no harm, and perhaps much good, to out this paragraph out and show it to the old folks who are addicted to sticking in the, parlor on Sunday evenings when their: daughter’s beau wants to tell her a great many secrets, and so forth. —“Norristown 1 Herald.”
