THE GREYMOUTH WARDEN.
With reference to the appointment of Mr J. Mackay as warden and magistrate of the <3rey district, referred to in this morning's telegrams, it is stated in the West Coast ipapers that Mr Charles Broad, the late warden, died somewhat suddenly on November •12th. The "Argus" says:—"The deceased .gentleman, up to within a few weeks since, was in harness, and was only yesterday •making preparations to resume the duties of 'bis office, when a change for the worst took iplace, and he died between twelve and one o'olook this morning. Mr Broad was, we believe, a native of Kent, England, and aged fifty-one years. There is no doubt but that the hard work, constant anxiety, and incessant travelling, to which Mr Broad was subjected, had something to do with hastening on his decease, which all who knew him must regret, as he was, above all things, an honest, hard-working, genial magistrate and friend.
