GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE CLUB.

A special general meeting of the Grand National Steeplecbaae Club was held last night at Oookeon’e Commercial Hotel. Present—Mr A. Tnrnbull, President (in the chair), J. H. Eaine, J. T. Ford, T. Acland, S. Bristol, H. Ford, W. Thompson, J. O’Connell, B. O’Connell, M. Studholme, J. Grigg, IT. Brettargh, B. Delamain, E. Griffith, O. Doweling, O. Smith, A. Wright, A. Perry, T. Brydon, and F. Egan, Hon. Sec. The Chairman, in introducing the business, regretted that many members had neglected to pay up their subscriptions, and said that he hoped that if any of them had any intention of withdrawing from the club they would give duo notice to the secretary, as the arrears of subscriptions had left a small deficit which ought not to have existed. It was proposed by Mr Studholme, seconded by Mr Wright—“ That the resolution passed at the last general meeting of the club, to hold the next annual meeting at Timaru, bo rescinded.” An amendment proposed by Mr Bristol, seconded by Mr Smith —“ That the former resolntion of the club to hold the meeting at Timaru be adhered to,” The amendment being put was lost, and the resolution carried. It was proposed by Mr H. Ford, seconded by Mr Brydon—“That the next annual meeting of the club be held on the Christchurch Course, by permission of the Canterbury Jockey Club.” An amendment was proposed by Mr Smith, seconded by Mr Bristol —“ That the next meeting of the club be held at Waimate.” The amendment being put was lost, and the resolution carried. It was proposed by Mr Delamain, seconded by Mr Acland—“ That the committee consist of twenty members of the club instead of eight, as in rule 1.” The resolution was carried. On the motion of Mr Delamain, seconded by Mr Griffith, it was resolved —“ That any owner employing a jockey shall be liable to pay the said jockey a fee of £5 5s for a losing mount, and £lO 10a for a winning mount, and if any jockey be convicted of malpractices during a race, the owner of the horse shall not be liable for any riding fee." The following candidates were duly elected members of the club :—Messrs P. Duncan, Geraldine ; G. D. Greenwood, Teviotdale; E. K. Pitt, Blue Cliffs ; and E. Goodwin, Silveratream. A vote of thanks to the chairman and the hon. secretary terminated the proceedings, and the meeting adjourned.
