WESLEYAN CHURCH, COLOMBO ROAD.

Sermons were preached on behalf of the Sunday school last Sunday. The soiree came off on Wednesday evening. Tea was spread in the public school, and the following ladies presided : Mesdames Charters, Daltry, Christian, Budd, Dewsbury, Hooper, Simpson, and Shierlaw. The bachelors also had a table on their own account, which was the chief feature of the soiree—gorgeously decorated with numerous banners and devices, and almost every luxury. There was a very largs attendance, and the sum of £23 was taken at the door. The public meeting, held afterwards in the church, was presided over by Mr Bobert Dawson. The secretary’s report indicated growing numbers and efficiency. The treasurer’s statement showed that the present anniversary had realised about £42, and, with other sums obtained during the year, the year’s income for the school would reach nearly £SO. Addresses were delivered by the Kev. J. S. Smalley, on “Bobert Eaites, Founder of Sunday Schools by the Eev. J. B. Eichardson, on “ The Outlook for the Future ; by the Eev. J. Clover, on “Eecreationand by the Eev. W. Baumber, on “Things in General.” The children of the school, with the choir, occupied a platform around the rostrum, and sang favorite melodies at intervals with much spirit, under the able leadership of Mr George Daltry. During the evening Mr Dawson, the chairman, presented to Mr George Daltry, on behalf of a few friends, a silver epergne, as a token of regard for the efficient manner in which he had trained the children of the school. Mr Daltry replied in very feeling terms, and said it was a labor of love, and ho hoped to continue long amongst them in the same capacity. Mr Kundell, superintendent of the school, in proposing a vote of thanks to all who had taken part in the proceedings, made some very timely remarks on the necessity of forming a Wesleyan Sunday School Union for the colony.
