Arawata arrived this morning from Melbourne. via South. She sails for Wellington tins ThSs?a.’Tararuft arrived yesterday morning from Wellington, having left there at 2.20 p.m. the day previous. The steamer left for Melbourne shortly after 11 a.m., via Southern ports and Hobart Town. The schooner Isabella, Captain Abrahams, arrived yesterday morning fromWelliagton, with a cargo or blasting powder, piles, and telegraph material, bhe left there on Thursday last, and had variable moderate weather down the coast. The barquentiae Empress of Chum, Captain Grigg, arrived yesterday from Hobart Town, after a passage of twelve days. Moderate westerly winds prevailed as far as Foveaux Straits, on Thursday hist. Thence northerly weather. The agents or the vessel are Messrs Montgomery and Co. The contractors, Messrs Hollis and Williams, for altering and moving the long shed on the Gladstone pier, have entered upon their work. The building is to he divided into sections, with an additional length of sixty feet to be added, thus affording very much increased accommodation. The work is expected to be finished in six months. The s.s. Taiaroa, Captain Pietersen, arrived yesterday from Port Chalmers, whence she left on Monday, at 1.45 p.m. The Jasper, which left here for Dunedin on Saturday night, had not, as reported, arrived when the Tararua left. Captain Pietersen reports the wind being southerly after leaving Port Chalmers, and light northerly ofteiwards. He did not sight the Jasper coming up. The Taiaroa sailed North at 4 p.m. , The schooner Zior, Captain Bell, was to leave IToxton for here a day or so after the Hannah liars.s. Huia arrived from TCaikoura and Wellington early yesterday morning and left last night on the return trip, after transhipping a quantity of wool and tallow to the ship Merope. POET OF SUMNEK.
