PHILOSOPHICAL INSTITUTE.
The annual meeting of the Philosophical Institute of Canterbury was held last evening. The President, Professor Bickerton, occupied the chair. The election of officers for the year resulted as follows:—President, Mr E. Dobson; Vice-Presidents, Bev. J. W. Stack and Professor Von Haast; Treasurer, Mr W. M Maskell; Secretary (re- elected), Mr N. K. Cherrill; Council, Messrs Pereday, Inglis, Q. Gray, A. D. Dobson, T. S. Lambert, and Professor Bickerton. The Secretary read the report for the paßt year. Mr Mclntyre wished to ask whether the special meeting at which the rules were to be amended would be a meeting of. members ? He thought that it was very important that this should be so, more particularly as the society had now become a large institution. Tbe President pointed out that the rules provided that there should be no alteration of rules except at the annual meeting or at a special general meeting. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Adams, seconded by Professer Vo i Haast—- " That the hours of meeting of the Council should he at half-past seven in future and'the ordinary meeting at eight." The further alteration of rules was left to a special meeting. _^_^^_
