BOARD OE HEALTH.

The Board of Health met yesterday afternoon at live o’clock. Present —Mr Harman (chairman) and Messrs Ross, Blakiston, Brown, Tancred, Duncan, Hobbs and Hall. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed. The following report of tho Inspector of Huisancea was road : I beg to report as follows 1. Acting on tho instructions of the Chairman, J. Lave, inspected the premises mentioned in connection with a reported case of typhoid fever in a report of the acting medical officer, and have caused the removal of the nuisance therein referred to, and have visited the homes of the children absent from the Phillipstown school on sick leave, and reported result to tho acting medical officer. grounds, and consequently tbe closets are at present very mneb exposed to tbe intrusion of mischievous and improper persons. 2. As the open ditches on St. Alban’s lane are being filled up upon tho completion of the storm water sower, I have visited frorn bouse_to house to prevent nuisances that might arise from failure to mike the necessary house connections with tbe sewer. 3. The nuisances arising from stagnant water in low places on land owned by Mr Brown, Creek street, Phillipstown, and Mr Banks, Barbour street, have been abated by filling up tho hollow places with earth. Wm. Pearce, Inspector of Nuisances. Mr Pearce was instructed to communicate with the chairman of tho school committee in reference to tho sanitary condition of tho Phillipstown school. The report was adopted. The Chairman stated that the district generally was in a satisfactory condition from a sanitary point of view. The only infectious diseases reported during the past fortnight-were two eases of typhoid fever. _ A report was read from tho acting healtn officer, Dr. Nedwill, from which it appeared that he had reason to inspect the Phillipstown school, and found certain premises in tho school ground defective in the matter of drainage. Tho matters contained in Dr. Nedwill’s letter were also referred to in the report of the inspector of nuisances, and steps have been taken to see the nuisances abated. The salaries |for the month having been passed for payment, The Board (in committee) proceeded to the appointment of a medical officer. There were seven applications, the successful applicant being Dr Nedwill. The Board then adjourned.
