[Via Auckland.] MELBOURNE, October 28. Australian Cricket. From the show in practice Victorian chances ar not very encouraging for the match against New South Wales. Both bowling and batting are very ordinary. Horan, Blackham, and Boyle are iu best batting form. Palmer bowled splendidly, and is considered the hope of the team. ADELAIDE, October 28. The northern Territory. English capitalists offered to invest eight hundred thousand pounds more in developing the northern territory on condition of getting certain landed concessions and mineral rights. SYDNEY, October 28. A fire in Darling harbor resulted in the total destruction of Larkins’ palace produce stores. The fire was discovered at midday, and raged fearfully till seven. Manual and steam engines were on the spot, but nothing could be saved. The clear loss amounts to about £IO,OOO. Massacre by New Guinea Natives. The Government schooner Spitfire arrived at Oooktown from a cruise. She was boarded by Captain Webb, of the schooner Bride of Logan, who reports the massacre of his crew, including Alexander Drew, publican; Thos, Gaer, master mariner, both of Oooktown; Henry Mulrolland, a Malay ; Eon (his wife), also another Malay woman, and three Chinese, by the natives of Cloudy Bay, near New Guinea. Captain Webb states that he was fishing on a reef, and, upon returning to his vessel, found her completely gutted. He saw the natives with a rope hauling her ashore. He jumped aboard, cut the hawser, and, having supped the anchor, stood out from the bay. He returned next day, but could see nothing of the crew. The natives having taken all the arms and ammunition he could not land, and therefore made sail for Oooktown.
