m ttNITED CANTERBURY CLUB V MID-| LAND CLUB. The weather was all that could be desired for the continuation of this match. The around has booome much faster during the past "freak, but the wicket waa not in good order, apparently not having been rolled after it ww cut. Ashby and C. Frith took their places at the wickets to tho bowling of Fuller ard Turner. From the first ball from tho latter Ashby made a 4 to leg and a single ■Jrom the next, but from tho following ball 3?rith was bowled off his leg. Longden filled the vacancy, and for some time runs came freely, Ashby being attentive to both bowlers, making 130 appear on the telegraph board. Two more runs wore scored when Ashby gave a chance to Watson in tho deep field, but escaped. Tho next ball, however, _ proved fatal, as he hit it ap in the same direction, and this time Watson did not fail to secure it. Hanmer was well caught by Turner off his own bowling, and a good catch at the wicket by Pavitt disposed of Longden, whon he had made a dozon, tho innings thus closod for 136 or 44 on. Tho Midlands commenced thoir second inning 3, but wero cxtremoly unfortunate. Alpe was caught off tho third ball, and Watson, aftor making two fine on drives, one for 5 and'the other for 2, whioh should have been at least 4, b*fc it hit a player in another game—2 for 13. The next wicket fell for 19, the fourth for 27, fifth for 32, sixth for 36, seventh for 39, eighth for 40, ninth for 50, and tenth for 54. With the exception of Beaumont, no stand was made against the bowling. McDonnell and Fawcett (sub. for J. Fowler) ran themselves out badly. n i Tho bowling of Ashby and Frith was very good, and the fielding was equal to tho occasion. With only 11 runs to get to win, A. Wilson and Hartland went in to the bowling of Fuller and Turner. With the score at 6, Wilson was neatly caught at third man by Morice, and necessitated Frith going in. The runs required were then soon made, and the match iterminated in favor of the United by nine wickets. The following is the Bcore :
