Eotomahana arrived to-day from Sydney, via North, and only eleven honrs and fifty minutes from Wellington wharf, or from wharf to wharf. She is to leave for Port Chalmers this afternoon. The s.s. Hawea arrived from Port Chalmers this morning, and proceeds North this evening. The s.s. Jane Douglas arrived last night from Kaikoura and Wellington, to sail for Timaru to-day. The Magellan Cloud, from Kaipara, arrived this morning. A nice piece of crane work was executed yesterday afternoon in lifting one of the “ D " class locomotives from a track and safely stowing it in the hold of the schooner Maud Graham, lying at the breastwork. The engine was about half as long again as the vessel’s hatchway, and within an inch of its width. It was. however, shipped and stowed ■without either it or the vessel receiving more than a, scratch in the process. The engine' is to bo taken to Pioton. Captain Qrahh has now taken charge of the Nightingale, now lying at Timaru, and proceeds to Kaipara for baulk timber. Captain Featherstons has been appointed to the Glimpse.
