In reference to yesterday’s telegram, stating that arrangements had been made between the Orient and Pacific line, whereby the two companies were to run steamers fortnightly between London and Australia direct, commencing in January next, the companies believe that the magnitude of the trade, and increasing attraction of the colonies, warrant the enterprise. The new service will retain the name ‘‘ Orient line,” and be conducted by the present managers, Messrs F. Green and Co., and Anderson, Anderson and Co., as joint managers. October 29. General Roberts is storing five months’ supplies at Cahul, and making preparations for housing the troops.
