ACCLIMATISATION.

Notwithstanding that the Acclimatisation Society have made large distributions of trout in various parts of the province, there still remain about 10,000 fish in their ponds. A supply which was forwarded to Mr John Josling, of Bangiora, has been placed in a suitable locality, and there is every probability of their thriving and ultimately supplying Northbrook. The trout fishing for the ensuing year in the southern streams, with the exception of the Winchester stream, which principally runs through private property, is likely to be indifferent. The South Canterbury Society, therefore, do mot contemplate issuing licenses. Mr H. G. Buchanan has liberate the 500 trout given by the society for the benefit of the Little BiycrJJdistriot,?equally between the Okaua stream and the Ohuti, without any loss. Mr "Wynn Williams has likewise distributed 1000 trout in the waters beyond the Upper Belwyn. Altogether he has stocked the Selwyn and tributaries with 3500 fish. The pheasants are rapidly increasing in the Timaru district, and in some parts the jputridge* are becoming very numerous. Mr

Perry, of Timaru, who it in communication with tho North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, it of opinion that the Californian quail will not afford much sport where bath prevails, from the fact that the birdt when flushed settle in the highest trees.
