THE POLITICAL SITUATION.

SECOND EDITION

[FBOH OITE OTVK COEBESFONDBtfT.] "WELLINGTON, October 24. This afternoon was by far the most lively of the session, and no theatre could havo pfforded more diversion, On the Government proposing to go into supply, Sir George Grey moved, as an amendment, for all cor. respoudence connected with the winning over of the four Auckland members. This was enlarged on in the strongest terms, and every corrupt move attributed both to the Government and the Auckland members. This was followed up by the virtuous indignation of Messrs Montgomery, Turnbull, Shrimski, Hislop, and Lundon, without any reply from the Government, and when it came to the vote Sir George was annoyed to find both the Government and tho four Auckland members voting with him. This being done, Mr Wood stood up and communicated the whole facts of the case. There was no correspondence and no compact, except an understanding with the Government on great publio questions. He then stated that, whilst offered nothing by the Government, he had been offered tho Colonial Treasurership by Sir George Grey and the Premiership by Mr Macandrew, and that since he had w wived to no longer continue with thorn, both Sir Geo. Grey and Mr Macandrew fciad told him that

they would have given him any terms if he would stay with them. Mr Wood's speech was delivered in his theatrical style, and not a word of it was ever denied by those he appealed to, and all the virtuous indignation of Messrs Lundon and Coy was seen to have been quite thrown away. Supply was voted in the evening without any attempt at censure. The committee decided this afternoon against Sir George Grey as member for Chriatchurcb, but Mr Stewart talked against it to prevent the decision that Mr Richardson was the member entitled to the seat, so as not to allow him to take his seat this week.
