CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, October 24. [Before & L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.I Drunk AND Disorderly.—a first offender was fined ss, and in another case a fine of 20s was inflicted. Rape.—John Davis was charged with the commission of this offenoe. Mr Neck appeared for the accused. On the application of Mr Inspector Hickson the prisoner was remanded until Monday, the 27th instant. Embezzlement. William Smith was charged with embezzling £5, the property of George Bull. There were two other charges ofembezzhng £3 and 7a 111, also the property of George Bull. Mr Nock appeared for the accused, who p’eaded guilty, and was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, with hard labor. LYTTELTON. Feiday, October 24. [Before Joseph Beswick, Kao., R.M and T H. Potts. E-q , J.P. Breach of the Peace—Wm. Nicholls, arrested last week for committing a breach of the peace within view of a constable, to wit, knocking his wife down in front of the Post Office, and in whose case an adjournment was granted by the Bench to allow the patties time to arrange to separate, was again presented. Mrs Nicholls staled to the Bench that ehe was willing to give her husband another chance if he would promise to behave himself and keep from drink. The Bench, in consideration, postponed the case for a month, making an order for maintenance. Civil Cases.—D niels v Charles, claim £5 I7e 3d. Mr O’Ned for defendant. Judgment for plaintiff for £2 4s 81 and costs, 18s. DfCosta v Mayze, claim £3O. Mr O'Neil for plaintiff. Mr Nalder (by Mr Joyce) fop defendant. Adjourned to Wednesday next.
