A NOVELTY.

There is now on view at _ Messrs Petersen and Co.'s, a novelty which will bo regarded as a great boon by all whose fate it is to use pen-and-ink much. A great muDy attempts have been made to invent a pen which would contain suffcient inkiwithin itself to enable writers to dispense with an inkstand. Up to the present, however, this has not been accomplished. During Mr Kohn's visit to England, however, ho found a novelty which had only just been patented, in the shape of the stylographic pen, wliich has been manufactured by Messrs Waterlow and Sons, and for which Messrs B. Peterson and Co. have boon appointed sole agents_ in New Zealand. The appearance of the pen is that of a pencil of vulcanised India rubber, about four and half inches long. The holder contains the ink, which is filled by moans of a small glass syphon, the top being covered with an airtight cap, the capillary attraction causes the ink to flow freely through the pen point. The writing needle is of gold, pointed with iridium, and will last for years. One point about the pen is, that it can be held downward for any length of time, and no ink will escape ; but as soon as it touches paper it will mark. From 8000 to 20,000 words can be written by a single filling. The price of this ingenious piece of mechanism is not great, and no doubt they will come largely into uae here^when they become more fully knows,
