THEATRE ROYAL.

A special version, written for the Lingard Company, of that very peculiar comedy, 11 Pink Dominos,” was brought forward last night at the Theatre Royal. What has always been understood as the original version of the same play, by James Albery, has 'several times been performed in Christchurch, and has never achieved a large amount of popularity. The speciality of the present version is that the most objectionable features of the piece are rather leas obtruded than heretofore, and that is certainly in its favor. There is no substantial difference between Mr Lingard’s, the late Mr Bates’, and Mr G-eorgo Darrell’s “ Pink Dominoes.” The plot of each is made up of the same series of incidents, and the humor is derivable from the same combination of circumstances, in which intrigue is the largest clement. Miss Alice D Lingard played in her usual sprightly effective manner as Lady Mabel, and Messrs W. H. Lingard and Gt. Leopold as Charles Neville and Josiah Babb, infused a large amount of liveliness into the comedy. The interpretation by the company of the remainder of the characters calls for no special laudation. The performance concluded with the clever burlesque rechristened “ Pluto,” but better known perhaps by its original tide of “ Orpheus and Eurydice.” All the characters were well sustained, notably those of Orpheus by Miss Melrose, Eurydice by Miss Wooldridge, and Aristams by Miss Blanche Leopold. Mr W. Lingard played Pluto in a fine vein of burlesque, and contributed largely to the general success. Mr Q-. Leopold was very funny as the Queen of Hades, and Mr Warner made a hit as the classic maid of all work, Clotilda. The costumes were rich and appropriate, and the

songs and dances with which the burlesque is interspersed displayed the versatility of the company to advantage. The same bill will be repeated this evening.
