The regular trading collier barque Espeoalador, Captain Powell, arrived last night, from Newcastle, whence shellef t September 26th. THE PLEIONE. It was hoped that the ship signalled yesterday afternoon might prove to be the overdue ship .Knowsley Hall, from London. Being signalled as coming from the North, however, justified the doubts of those who were anxious for that vessel's arrival, and the numbers indicating that it was the Pleione being run up at the signal station soon after dispelled further conjecture. The Pleione is the latest built of Messrs Shaw, Savill and Go.'s ships. Built at Glasgow in 1876 under special Surrey and the supervision of her present commander Captain Eenaut, she is an admirable representative of the modern style of iron-bnilt naval architecture, and a credit to her owners. Her maiden voyage •was to Wellington, since which two voyages have teen made by her to that port. After discharging there on her last voyage she left for Newcastle August 27th, and made the run across in ten days. Her present cargo, consisting of close upon 1500 tons of coal, was there loaded, the vessel taking her departure for this port October Ist, the round trip from Wellington here thus being performed in something over six weeks. One or two specialities in her fittings may be noticed. The intention of her owners was that she be constructed specially ■with a view to carry passengers or Government emigrants, and to that end she was fitted with a large after saloon or cabin, immediately aft of the main saloon. A companion way from the poop deck connects directly with this cabin, and at the foot of it a commodious bathroom and lavatory are to he found. No approach from this after cabin to the 'tween decks was provided, the whole of this special arrangement being devised for the requirements of the home regulations with reference to the accommodation on board emigrant ships carrying a large number of single girls. Xhemain saloon is roomy, and substantially furnished, the state rooms being very large, and unusually well lighted by the more than ordinary sized s'de scuttles or ports. The advantage of having the Eoop deck carried straight up instead of rounded off i at once realised upon seeing the ample space it affords as a promenade for passengers. The front of the poop is of iron, as also is that of the forecastle, the deok houses being of the same substantial material. The ship, in her 'tween decks, is fitted with gutter waterways, and the most recent system for thorough ventilation has been provided. The Pleione is 1092 tors register, and as may be gleaned from the foregoing brief description, is a completely fitted vessel. Of her passage from Newcastle, Captain Eenaut reports:—Left there October Ist. Forth «first four days had moderate soath to S.E. winds :from the sth S.E. to N.E. until making Ca.je Farewell on the 10th, when light airs from N.W. to W. set in, and carried N.W. wind to Koikonra, passing Cape Campbell at 9 a.m. Sunday, 12th. Made Godley Head yesterday at noon, and anchored in the harbor at 5.30 p.m. Captain Eenaut is an old visitor, and ■was last here in command of the ship Crusader now in port. It is reported that the Pleione has teen ordered on to San Francisco. SHIPPING TELEGEAMS. Port Chalmers, October 14. Arrived: Arawata, from Bluff; Wanaka, from Xyttelton. Sailed: Free Trader, for Hobart Town.
