[per press agency. I WELLINGTON, October 13. Mr Ballance made a speech at the Opposition banquet, in the course of which he referred to his quarrel with Sir George Grey, saying that he wanted to let bygones be bygones, and to work amicably with Sir G. Grey for the success of the liberal party. Tho Opposition consider that if they succeed in obtaining Mr Allwright’s support they will have a majority of two, and if the Government can fill up the spare portfolio from the [Opposition rants, parties will be equal. The Opposition consider they will not find much difficulty in forcing on tho want of confidence debate, even should the attempt be opposed by the Government. The Ministerialists, on the other hand, express the utmost confidence _of retaining power, though they are very reticent. At the Opposition caucus on Saturday night, forty-one were present, including members of the Legislative Council. Sir G. Grey and Messrs Swanson and Reader Wood were absent. Mr Hutchison sent an excuse. Mr Pyke attended, and ia reported to have said that he was with them heart and soul.
