SOUTH AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY CLUB.

The South Australian Jockey Club (says " Falcon," in the Leader "), appear to have bad a good day's racing at Morphetville on Saturday last. Pawnbroker was in rare form at the meeting, winning the Derby and also the Free Handicap. Unfortunately he is not engaged in the V. 8.0. Derby. He is by Bluegown (son of Lord of the Hills and Moselle's dam), out of Tinfinder, by Tarragon out of Deceptive, by Talverton, &c. Pawnbroker is undoubtedly a cut above the average three-year-olds of the season, and his presence at Flemington in November would add additional interest to the weight-for-age events. Totalisator. almost a full brother in blood to Pawnbroker, is engaged in the Maribyrnong Plate, and rumour says he is a clinker. The Wandering Jew won the Spring Handicap from Viceroy and five others, doing his Derby in 2min. 44sec,, and the Free Handicap mile in lmin. 44sec, with 7st lib up, the news of which performance brought him into prominence for the Melbourne Cup the same evening. He was backed to win something like £16,000, and left off at 100 to 4. He is remarkably well in at sst 111 b, and has not as yet suffered a single defeat, having won seven races in succession, his best performance being at the last Adelaide Birthday Meeting, when he beat Lady Ellen at a mile and a half weight for age. As a two-year-old last season he also defeated Banter, Bat, carrying 6st 41b, three-quarters of a mile. Next day Banter won the Adelaide Cup in a walk, with 6st 111 b ; Timothy, 7st 61b ; Warlock, 7st 111 b ; Device, 7st 81b; Viceroy, 6st 121 b, and others, finishing behind him. Considering his performances, it is rather surprising that Wandering Jew should have been treated so leniently as compared with several other indifferent performers of the same age.
