A meeting of delegates from the various Lodges (8.0.) was held at Brother Quill's Commercial Hotel, Ashburton, on Thursday evening, 9th inst., when the following Lodges were represented :—Canterbury KUwinning (3), Robert Burns (3), Southern Star (3), Thistle (3). A number of members belonging to the various Lodges were in attendance as visitors. P.M. Bro. J. L. Fleming (Robert Burns) was voted to the ohair, and Bro. J. E. H. Harris (Thistle) was appointed hon. sec. to the delegates. The following resolutions were proposed and oarried:—(l.) "That it is desirable that a District Grand Lodge be formed in the Canterbury district, and that the present provincial district of Canterbury be the district for the purposes of this resolution." (2.) " That the expenses of the proposed D.G.L. be borne by all the Lodges proportionately to the number of the members." (3.) "That a petition be drawn up by a committee, consisting of Bros. P.M. Taylor, P.M. Fleming, W.M. Hurst, W.M. Williams, and Bro. Harris, asking the present Grand Lodge to release the S.C. from the present D.G-.L. (No. 45), and requesting that a new G-.L. be formtd with jurisdiction extending over the present provincial district of Canterbury." After some discussion as to when the new G-.L. (if appointed) should hold their communications, it was suggested that the matter should stand over for the present j although it seemed to be opinion of most of the members present that Christchurch, Ashburton, and Timaru should be visited alternately. After the business was concluded, the visiting delegates were invited by the Thistle Lodge to a banquet held at the Ashburton Hotel, where Bros. Mutch and Mcßenzie served a first-class spread, which, was thoroughly appreciated by all brethren present. The usual Masonic toasts were enthusiastically received, and some well rendered music contributed not a little to the enjoyment of the evening. Regret was expressed at the serious illness of Bro. Felton, who, it was stated, was Ijing in a very critical state.
